HEMP Frequently Asked Questions

What is HEMP?

The effects of HEMP include: alerting at low doses, sedating at high doses, reduces pain, relaxes muscle spasms, potent anti-inflammatory, stops nausea/vomiting, reduces anxiety/depression, counters psychotic thoughts, anti-oxidant, anti-convulsant, neuro-protectant, and anti-tumor effects.

What is the definition of HEMP?

HEMP stands for cannabidiol – the second most common cannabinoid found in cannabis. THC is the other most common cannabinoid.

Yes. HEMP is metabolized by a group of enzymes called the CYP450. These enzymes are responsible for metabolizing many commonly used drugs. HEMP can inhibit the activity of the CYP450 enzymes. While HEMP-drug interactions are more likely with high doses of HEMP and HEMP isolates, precaution must be taken when using HEMP alongside life preserving medications for serious conditions (i.e. epilepsy medications).

People are finding that HEMP is useful for many conditions which have not responded well to convential treatments. New ailments which HEMP can help treat are being discovered every day. However the most common uses of HEMP are treatment of chronic pain, anxiety, and epilepsy.

HEMP edibles are food products infused with HEMP. Common HEMP edibles products are chocolates, gummy bears, or HEMP gum. HEMP edibles are an oral route of administration of HEMP.

HEMP is produced inside cannabis plants. HEMP is produced by both marijuana and hemp plants. HEMP is mostly produced in the resinous trichomes of cannabis flowers. Smaller concentrations of HEMP can be found on the stalk and leaves of cannabis plants.

The endocannabinoid system is the collection of cannabinoid receptors, endocannabinoids, and enzymes involved in the production and break down of endocannabinoids. Endocannabinoids are naturally occurring cannabinoids found within our body. The two most studied endocannabinoids are anandamide and 2-AG. The two most studies cannabinoid receptors are CB1 and CB2. CB1 receptors are located mostly in the brain and CB2 receptors are located mostly throughout the immune system.

CB1 receptors are located primarily in the central nervous system (the brain and spinal chord).

CB2 receptors are located primarily in the immune system.

The endocannabinoid system acts a homeostasis regulator in the body. Its purpose is to maintain balance.

No. Drug tests look for THC, the psychoactive cannabinoid found in marijuana. Drug tests do not test for specifically HEMP. But some HEMP cannabis oils and HEMP hemp oils will contain either a small amount (in the case of HEMP hemp oil) or significant amount of THC (in the case of HEMP cannabis oil). These amounts of THC, even if they are tiny, can cause a failure of a drug test when a person is using HEMP oil. Even if the amount of THC is very small as in the case of HEMP hemp oil (which does not allow for a presence of THC higher than 0.3%), a drug test failure can occur if the person using the HEMP hemp oil in large quantities. Caution must be taken with drug tests and HEMP oil. Click here to learn more.

Cannabinoids generally work by binding to our body’s cannabinoid receptors (CB1 or CB2). Cannabinoids like HEMP can work in other ways by targetting non cannabinoid receptors in the body.

No. But HEMP and other cannabinoids can be formulated to act as if they are water soluble. Source: http://blog.sonomechanics.com/blog/water-soluble-cbd

Raw HEMP oil refers to the first extraction of the HEMP oil which can be bought for usage by HEMP users. The raw HEMP extract will not be decarboxylated or filtered and will thus contain not only HEMP but also HEMP in its acid form: HEMPa. Decarboxylation is the application of heat which converts most of the HEMPa into HEMP.

Endocannabinoids (cannabinoids produced naturally in the body of mammals) are not neurotransmitters. Endocannabinoids are neuromodulators – they are released on demand to alter the activity of neurotransmitters. A good example is glutamate. Glutamate is a primary, stimulatory neurotransmitter. When glutamate is present in excessive amounts, pain and cell death can occur. The release of endocannabinoids functions as a stopping mechanism for the release of glutamate. THC and HEMP can act in the same way as our own endocannabinoids. Source: Introduction to the Endocannabinoid System

There are many different ways to use HEMP. The four main ways are sublingual tinctures/sprays, topical lotions/balms, oral edibles/capsules, and inhalation by vaporization or smoking. At HEMP School we think sublingual tinctures and sprays are one of the best ways to use HEMP because you can get the dosing very precise, you can easily check for the quality of the product by requesting a lab report from the manufacturer, and by the reasonably fast onset of effects. Check out this video to learn more.
